Tonight I attended the ICM (International Care Ministries – www.caremin.com) annual Gala Banquet in Hong Kong. ICM has been doing great work in the Philippines for years and presents as perhaps the best organised small to medium-sized charity I’ve seen. The banquet was attended by 700 Hong Kong people – through a mixture of silent and live auctions coupled with well-crafted donation ‘packages’ raised HK$8 million. Not bad for one night! I learnt that to raise money in the philanthropic world one needs to be well managed, explain clearly what the organisation is doing with the money it receives, and also put on an entertaining night! I was lucky enough to win a Lot in the auction and also decided to fund a Philippine neighbourhood for the next 12 months.
