Wheel2Wheel day 5: Morgan’s Expedition Blog

No fixed plan today, key is getting all the extra filming shots done to round out the China episode.

Had a ball on Paddy’s Yamaha on the banks of the Li River.

Ride back to Guilin to catch flight to Hong Kong was hell.  Raining and freezing cold, I arrived at the airport with my 2nd hypothermic condition within 3 days.  In the rush for the plane, I forgot to give Paddy the key, licence and padlock for his bike.

Then to make matters worse, I arrived in Hong Kong jaded from the ride and proceeded to leave my new US$3000 camera on the Hong Kong Airlines plane.  Levina called them immediately, we were last off the plane, sitting a rear, so I was sure it would be recovered, but alas, no luck.  It was devastating, only 5 days into the adventure and I had lost one of the central characters in the story-telling!

I arrived back home at 8:30pm knowing I was scheduled to jump on my bike and ride to the HK-China border for a midnight crossing.  Why midnight?  Well we had to pick one discreet day (midnight to midnight) to use the temporary permit the HK Transport had granted me.  So we picked Sunday 6 March.   My plan is to ride to Shenzhen stay overnight (briefly) then ride towards the Vietnam border first thing Sunday morning.

So this was a big day – hellish 2 hour ride in China, costly forgetful flight home to HK, then a midnight crossing of the border!
