Absolutely had no idea that I’d be back on my mountain bike 16 days after having my new LARS ACL inserted into my knee by – the genius, otherwise known as Dr Simon Tan.
This weekend I traveled to Perisher in the Australian Alps as my daughter Hannah was competing in the Australian Nationals in skiing. Unable to ski I brought along my bike thinking I’d try and push the boundaries on my rehab.
This afternoon I headed for the Alpine Way between Jindabyne and Thredbo and tentatively got on my Scott mountain bike. To my amazement the LARS powered through a 15km ride witnessing some of the most beautiful scenery one could imagine. Clear blue skies, pristine air, Australian alpine tundra, wild brumbies, kangaroos … and all the while the LARS hung in there.
So much so that after 2hrs on the bike I headed to Thredbo for a workout at the Australian Institute of Sport gym. Medical technology is an amazing thing.
In years gone by my Wheel2Wheel dream would have been dead with my skiing accident at Mt Buller in August … now I am probably going to be stronger than before. Incredible … and incredibly thankful.
Stay tuned for more milestone courtesy of Mr LARS!!
